Not Your Ordinary Weekend – Events In Manchester
We were invited down to The East Lancashire railway to photographer one of its ever popular bespoke events. It is well known for its quirky events in Manchester. Many of them involving fancy dress like halloween, Guided Rail Ale Trail and bespoke events such as this one we shot . . . a 1940s weekend where the actors dressed up in old fashioned rag to re-enact the past and play murder mysteries. Guests that came along for the ride were treated to a trip on an old steam train along with afternoon tea and entertainment. There was an array of guests from young to old and even a hen party joining in the fun and games.
This particular weekend in the calendar of events in Manchester were three days of fun, from friday to sunday and we were there to capture all of it. Each train held a different event from cream tea, to a red rose dinner and a murder mystery, there was something for everyone. With many actors dressed up and walking around in full character, some as villains, village folk and upper class citizens of the 1940’s, there was even a magician wondering around the place doing his magic. The crowd loved it and got stuck in with all the games and activities, the young at heart rejoiced and the kids filled with laughter.
This wasn’t your average event in Manchester in any way at all, crossed between going to the theatre, a museum, and a dinner party…there was so much to photograph we could hardly keep up. Luckily, we are well experienced in event photography so it was no challenge for us.
There was plenty of food and drink going around, the cream tea carriage saw light snacks such as cakes and sandwiches along with some sparkling wine, while the Red Rose dinner carriage served up hot and hearty food such as pie and chips with pints of beer. First class dining set in a 1940s with picturesque Lancashire scenery from Summerseat and Ramsbottom to Irwell Vale and Rawtenstall. With so many beautiful english countryside locations to visit and the authenticity of the themes you almost feel like you’ve travelled back in time.
