Hotel Photography Manchester | Crowne Plaza Hotel Manchester Airport
I was delighted to be asked to come along to Crowne Plaza Hotel Manchester Airport to shoot some Hotel Photography and produce images for the Crowne Plaza’s media and advertising. They required some contemporary advertising photography for their brochures and website, so of course, I was the first choice 😉 I’ve had many contracts with hotels in my years of experience in photography, they are always enjoyable but this one, in particular, was at the top of the list, read on to find out why…
Hotel Photography – The Venue
I walked around the luxury hotel photographing the rooms, reception, and facilities. As with all hotel photography shoots you have to have a keen eye for detail, good use of both natural & flash lighting and great composition. I try not to fill the frame with too much negative space such as an empty floor in a room. I always try to include an interesting foreground and background to the shots where possible. In one of the sample images below, I filled the foreground with a table and a couple of wine glasses to add interest and to be able to blur the background. Another with sofas coming from one corner to the other, out of the line of sight to make a better composition. It still shows the size of the room but from a slightly more interesting angle.
The Food…
After all that hard work we saved the best till last, the restaurants! Crowne Plaza treated us very well making sure we were fed and watered while we were shooting their hotel photography. After shooting all the yummy food they serve on their menu they let us eat everything… now that’s the perks of the job at its best! Certainly the most enjoyable hotel photography shoot we’ve done in a while! They served up everything from slow roast lamb, rosemary and thyme chicken, and green Thai curry. Along with a selection of beers and wine, which of course we didn’t get our fill as we were working… Ok ok, well maybe just one beer 🙂
To create great food photography we sometimes try to use a very shallow depth of field which not only enhances the creativity of the image by blurring the background we also end up creating ‘a Hero’ of the shot! Along with good contrast and strong, complimenting colours and of course, the perfect light.
You can practice your own food and venue photography at home with the settings on your camera and try out different angles to see what works and what doesn’t. Why not give it a go. On the other hand, if you are a business that needs a commercial photographer then get in touch.
We absolutely love shooting products! There’s nothing else we’d rather be doing. It can be a serious challenge to keep the creative ideas flowing but with a little forward planning and imagination, anything is possible! If you have a photography project you’d like to talk to us about or you’d like to book your own product shoot
