Portrait Preparation Guide
Our aim is to provide a stunning set of images that will grace your walls for many years to come. To make sure you get the best out of your experience there are a few things you may wish to consider:
What clothes should I wear?
- Consider the decor of the room where you intend to hang your picture
- It is advisable to choose clothes that compliment that decor (plain yet bright colours often look best)
- Bring at least two outfits so we can create a different style for you (maybe one smart and another casual)
- Always avoid clothing with large logos or writing on them as these can become very dominant in your pictures
- Group photographs are sometimes difficult to judge - you don't have to match but you do not want a clash of strong patterns or colours
What else should I bring?
- We have an Ipod dock in the studio so feel free to bring along your ipod to play your favourite music during the shoot
- We recommend you bring along some props to add personality to your photos. These can be anything from cuddly toys, favourite blankets, skateboards, musical instruments, sporting equipment, or for adults why not bring your favourite hat or handbag?
Other things to consider
- Hair & Makeup - For your portraits, you want your hair to look its best. We recommend that you don’t try a new hairstyle just before your session, but do plan to have it cut two weeks beforehand, this gives it a chance to grow out and look natural
- Skin Problems - Try not to worry too much if your teen has acne or blemishes. Retouching works wonders!
- Facial Hair - If you do shave, a fresh shave is a must! If you have a beard or mustache, make sure it is trimmed before your session.
- Glasses - Light reflected from a flash in eyeglass lenses can create white spots and glare and tinted lenses cannot be lightened. Check to see if your lenses have a glare resistant coating, if not it's not the end of the world as we often use a polarizing filter to reduce this a little. If in doubt ask your optometrist for a set of loaner frames similar to the ones you usually wear, or if you can, remove the lenses.
